One month today, the paper tax disc will be abolished. Let’s take a look at the history of the tax disc from its first issue in 1921 up until today.
The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) has produced this handy infographic, aptly titled ‘Tax discs: the end of the road’.
Did you know?
- Over 1.7 billion tax discs have been issued since 1921
- If they were put in a line they would go around the world three times
- Abolishing the paper tax disc will save the taxpayer around £10 million every year
- Last year, DVLA issued 42.2 million tax discs weighing over 72 tonnes – that’s heavier than a challenger 2 tank
DVLA has also created a short and humorous YouTube video explaining the changes that’s already received more than 65,000 views.
