Thinking and speaking negative is a bad habit. Here are some tips to change your inner voice and outward look on life.

It’s easy to fall into a pattern of a pessimist, especially if you’re surrounded by negative people and the first step to changing those negative thoughts is to be consciously aware of what you are thinking, saying and doing.

Throughout your day, stop and evaluate the tone of your inner voice. If you find it’s quite negative then follow the steps below to add a positive spin on it.

Two rules: Don’t say anything to yourself that you wouldn’t say to others and don’t say anything to others that you wouldn’t be happy hearing back.

Positive feedback during driving lessons

When you’re next in the car teaching then think about how you give the learner feedback. Take a look at the list below and see how you can give feedback and how you can address their negative comments whilst remaining positive.

 

Negative self-talk Positive spin
I’ve never done it before. It’s an opportunity to learn something.
It’s too complicated. I’ll tackle it from a different angle.
I don’t have the resources. Necessity is the mother of invention.
There’s not enough time. Let’s re-evaluate some priorities.
There’s no way it will work. I can learn to make it work.

I’m not getting any better at this. I want to give it another chance.
